OUR CURRICULUM

A young child internalizes concepts through movement, repetition and manipulation of concrete objects. Our environment provides a hands-on curriculum structured to meet the needs of a growing child.

The variety of Practical Life exercises focus on increased concentration, expanding care of one’s self, along with improving social skills. At Cedar Montessori your child will learn the basic skills necessary to become an independent person and have the opportunity to practice these skills. These exercises also help develop eye/hand co-ordination and small muscle skills.

Our Sensorial curriculum offers many opportunities to enhance the senses. The materials themselves invite the children to touch, look, listen, taste and smell. Individual exercise provide children opportunities to explore relationships in size, shape, color and texture. Matching, sorting and grading exercises will give your child concrete experience upon which to build.

Our Mathematic materials are multi-sensory and provide your child with the concrete experiences necessary to fully understand the numerical options of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Language development is supported by all areas of the Cedar Montessori curriculum. The language program begins the development of phonetic skills by using sandpaper letters; (touch and hearing); and the moveable alphabet (touching and seeing). Activities such as oral reading and talk time, will increase your child’s listening and speaking skills. Together these activities will provide your child opportunities to develop more formal levels of reading and writing.

Our Cultural Studies program integrates activities around a central theme. These includes geography and science as well as music and seasonal activities. This exposure allows your child a basic understanding and appreciation of human culture.
